Business On The Run

(2) Have before and after photos, or photos detailing unusual services on your phone – This is a technique I learned from Davey Tree Expert Company. When the Davey arborist recommended a drastic root pruning technique for an ailing tree we own, he was able to show photos of this procedure on his iPhone. It was an unusual procedure that was hard to grasp without seeing it. The photos convinced us — immediately, on the spot.
(3) Track packages – A variety of apps now make it possible to conveniently track packages being delivered. So if your customer wants to know where that shipment is and you’re out of the office, it is now an easy matter to check on it from your phone.
(4) Create, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on handheld devices – Apps such as Docs to Go and Zoho Mobile make this possible. This way, your field people can deliver or change documents (such as proposals and contracts) or the fly. Or they can check stock lists or other data maintained in spreadsheets. More about document apps here.
(5) Fill in forms, sign and return documents from your mobile device – No more printing and faxing documents! Use a convenient iPhone app to fill in forms, add a digital signature and send them to the other party, without needing to print them out and fax them back. Zosh is one; RightSignature is another variation.
(6) Put QR Codes on items to give your customers more information — QR codes are 2-dimensional codes that you can create and print on documents such as marketing materials and even business cards. Then using a QR scanner app on a handheld phone, the customer can get more information directly on their handheld device (perhaps taking them directly to a Web page). You might use QR codes to provide more product details or even coupons and discounts. More information on using QR codes.
(7) Load catalogs or images of product models on your smart phone – Why carry catalogs if good resolution images and other information can be available on your smart phone instead? You can even email selected information to the customer to print out locally on their printer, on the spot.
(8) Track inventory with Blackberry or other smart phone devices — Using a combination of an inventory software application, and a barcode scanner app or add-on for your mobile device, you can scan and/or check inventory on site or while mobile. NEOReader is a universal scanner app which claims to be able to scan and read all kinds of barcodes. There’s also a barcode scanner for Android by XZing.
(9) Deliver sales brochures and customer information – Email marketing materials to print off right at customer’s place of business or home
(10) Give presentations on an iPad - If you have a sales presentation and you’re with one or two people, there’s no need to lug around a laptop and projector. Just get a stand for your iPad and present your materials off of that. For larger audiences you may need that projector, but the iPad is quite nice for small groups and lends an informal intimacy that aids the sales process.
Customer Generated Advertising
- April 12, 2010 5:40 pm
Foursquare, the location based, social networking game, has an extraordinary side-benefit for small business: consumer generated advertising.
This is just reconstituted term for mouth advertising, seasoned for wider appeal. Not simply an experience that is shared, but an experience that is broadcasted. The SocialMediaExaminer has an excellent article detailing the angles of Foursquare and how users actually do the advertising for local businesses. Check it out here.
5 Tips For Real Estate Agents With Blackberrys
- April 5, 2010 6:52 am
If you carry a Blackberry, then Tips for Blackberry Users is a blog that you should bookmark or add to your RSS reader. Below is list of 5 tips for Real Estate Agents, but they are tips anybody on the go can really benefit from. This list was adapted from a post on Tips for Blackberry Users:
1. Make sure ALL your email addresses are in your BlackBerry. If you are like me, I have 2-3 different email addresses. Make sure you have all of them being received from your BlackBerry. This way which ever email address Mr. Important tries to contact you on – you can get to.
2. If you are in a meeting and you put your phone on vibrate, make it a habit to check your phone after each meeting to assure you have not missed an important call.
3. Have your key contacts (numbers and emails) in your Address Book. For example: Lenders, Closing agents, Title Agents, Appraiser, Survey Companies, etc. Anyone with whom you might need to call while you are away from your office.
TIP: Consider scanning their business cards – there are some great applications that will do this for you. A HUGE time saver.
4. Have important documents on you phone. The Documents on the Go application allows you to edit and create documents. This comes in handy if you need to alter a document and send it back.
TIP: Consider an application that lets you send any documents to your BlackBerry from your PC. There is even an application that will let you remotely print documents from your BlackBerry.
5. Set up a Profile IMPORTANT PEOPLE that will notify you even if you have your phone on vibrate. This will allow this call to NEVER be missed. Anytime you are actively working with an important client, change their profile to the IMPORTANT PEOPLE profile and never miss their call again.

Little City Roller Girls
- March 17, 2010 5:41 pm
Yep, that just happened. You just clicked on a link that said Little City Roller Girls. And here is how I found out about them; the big three.

Maybe, you were thinking back, as I was, to the dawning age of cable television that was defined by this type of variety. I remember when we first got cable as a youngster and feeling like I was drinking from a fire hose; there were so many options. One of those that caught my impressionable eye was Roller Derby.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! I never knew that such a sport existed but here it was. Long after being enamored by more cerebral entertainment; GI Joe, Thunder Cats, wrestling, I still have a soft spot for a good 4 wheeled kick to the chin.
Adolescence, then Adulthood, caught up with me and I was distracted by responsibility. Some might consider what you are about to see as a stumble in that progression, but I say it’s an advancement! It’s a giant step up from the days of watching it on the tube; this is LIVE! Plus, this is going on in my backyard, right here in the TriCities!! ROLL ON Roller Grlzzzz!
This is from idav, aka David Cate’s YouTube channel. David is a local media personality and blogger for gotricities.com, the Phillip Morris like conglomerate of media outlets here in the Tri-Cities. Ok, maybe, not that big, but the interweaving connections throughout the area is just as intricate.
Local Bristol Gourmet Market Imbibing Social Media
- February 28, 2010 4:57 pm
Inari Wines needs a social presence on these sites for the same reason that most businesses do: To build customer loyalty, to monitor what people are saying about their brand, and to market their product to an ever widening customer base.
But this is little ole’ Bristol, not a booming metropolis, right? Inari Wines is located in Bristol but it has also made its home on Facebook.
- Facebook has 100 Million US users. source: socialmediaexaminer
- An average user spends 55 minutes a day on Facebook. source: Inside Facebook
- More than 35 Million Facebook users update their status each day. source: trak.in
- 300,000 business are on Facebook.
Bristol may not be booming, but Facebook is. And so are all the others Social Networks; Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, Google Buzz, and the list can go on. Inairi Wines doesn’t have a store front on Hollywood Boulevard nor do they a have one in SoHo. They don’t need one. According to the stats, they could potentially reach more people through Facebook.
Could they do more? Could they take advantage of more social sites? Could they monetize their efforts? Yes. …..theParaMobile.com can help.

This dude is going shopping!

Men passionately love their gadgets as much as they passionately hate to shop but a marriage of the two might just have them bumping elbows with the ladies at the register,…..fighting for your product.
MixMobi is a company that creates coupons for distribution across mobile phone platforms. Surprisingly, MixMobi has reasonable pricing plans. This means, that with MixMobi, you can create a graphically appealing coupon for your product and then distribute it via sms, Twitter, Facebook, IM, email and many other mobile applications.
I'm a lazy fellow. I buy whatever I need based solely on the ease of acquisition and irregardless of price. Let me tell ya, boys, I'm actually excited about shopping now. Men, will this effect how you buy your toys? Ladies,…….do you want to shoot me in the face for posting this? Check our Mashable's review for an in-depth review. Local TriCities Youth Camp’s Fund Raiser goes Viral
- February 16, 2010 11:41 pm

Many of you here in the Tri-Cities area of East Tennessee have grown up going to Appalachian Christian Camp. Many of you, though no longer able too attend as campers, still actively support the camp as volunteers, board members, counselors, program directors, financial supporters and through your daily prayers. And still others of you enjoy the benefits of the camp through the different camp sessions that your kids enjoy throughout the summer.
Appalachian Christian Camp relies on the generosity of individuals and commitments from local churches for support. App Camp is organizing a Walk-A-Thon in April as a fund-raiser to help supplement their operating costs and their scholarship program. I am participating and I’m hoping you will too. I simply ask that you sponsor me as a walker in April. I’m promoting my involvement as an experiment in the power of Social Networking as a fund raising tool. I’m launching a viral campaign through as many outlets as possible: Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Blogs, and others. I need your help to retweet, repost, email, forward, and discuss this through all your various social networks.
Please help me generate a wave of excitement and an influx of support for Appalachian Christian Camp. There are a couple ways to donate, online donation or check by mail.
Online Donation
1) Go to their website: Appalachian Christian Camp
2) Click on the PayPal donate link.

3) Put “Walk-A-Thon, Eric Crouch“ in the description field. **Update 2/18/10 This step indicates that it is me that you are sponsoring. Appalachian Christian Camp is the sole recipient of your generous donation. App Camp would still receive your donation if you misspelled my name, put someone else’s name or left this blank entirely.
